Please check your hostel allotment before reaching here....otherwise you will be having a hard time searching your hostel...
You need to check in when you reach the hostel. For that you would be asked to fill 2 forms plus xerox copy of your iit admit card.....so do not forget to carry it with you.
After that you will march to your sweet room. At first it may look like the room is too small...but you will adjust to it in no time....believe me!!!
Now there will be a LAN port in your room which will behave as your lifeline for 4yrs...lol.
You need to buy a lan wire from stationary shop of your hostel. My advice is that buy a 5m lan wire instead of 3m. You will know the advantage of it in 2-3 months...lol.
However you are not allowed to directly use the iitg lan service for about 2 weeks...sorry.
Also install DC++ and IPmsg in your lappy. Stay tuned for more updates on hoe to use lan service.
Now....some serious talks-
There will be small shops placed in Manas community hall for small items like SIM cards, and big items like bicycles ( these are very important for freshers as you need to walk for 5km every day!!!), do go there and buy necessary items.
Also on the day of registration, your registration will be conducted in lecture halls 1,2,3,4. And they will be according to your branches, so do check there which lecture hall you need to go. There will be a prof sitting on the chair calling out your respective roll no in sequence. Its better to carry all documents beforehand- 10th and 12th marksheet, iitg allotment letter, iit admit card and report card, etc. Also then you will be asked to go to jee cell in admin buliding 3rd floor to verify your details. Do carry a fevi stick there and a pen!!

D orientation camp in Iitg dis yr scheduled for 25th july.. Am a resident of Bangalore an am sure of a seat in guwahati. Need to book d flight tickets fr lower cost. Wat would b d ideal date to book a ticket? An Will accommodation b available only after registration?

Seniors may or may not be there, but yes there will definitely be a bus with "IITG BUS SERVICE" displayed in the airport.

DeleteIf you are a girl, then your father is not even allowed to enter the hostel rooms. Now, officially your Mom and Dad cannot stay with you in your dorms. But parents normally stay for a few days (3-4) with their child in hostel rooms and guard on duty sometimes even allow this knowing that you have come from a long journey, etc.

DeleteYou can book a guesthouse but its not straightforward. Try by calling or mailing them and they shall book for you. But do it NOW...means NOW!!
DeleteOr when you reach there, just go to Admin building and ask the person for the form to book the guesthouse. You should be able to book a room at least for 1 day
In the hostel allotment list, there is a note at the end which says all boys' rooms are on a shared basis. Is it single or shared?

Hostel rooms are NOT shared. It was only in previous year that they were shared because a new hostel was under construction.

All the above stuff (except clothes) are available in your hostels or just outside IIT gate. However, for clothes (considering you are from Delhi) you need to go to Guwahati city to buy them. All the brands are available there.

ReplyDeleteIn the official notification, they said "All students are requested to bring their own bedding and report at the respective hostels". So are bedding not avilable in/near campus?
ReplyDeleteThis just means that IITG won't provide beddings from THEIR OWN MONEY. That is, the room you would be getting will have a bed but no bedding. There will be shops inside campus from where you need to buy these things.

Officially its not allowed...but unofficially, you can accommodate your parents in your room. And thats no big deal.
